Sandy has over 30 years of experience within the transportation, travel, leisure, financial services and real estate industries. He began his career in the auto rental industry in 1976 as a management trainee with Avis Rent a Car. Four years later, he purchased the Budget Rent a Car franchise in Daytona Beach, FL which served as the launching point from which Mr. Miller would ultimately build Team Rental Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:TEAM), a consolidator of Budget Rent a Car franchises.
In 1994, Team Rental raised funds in an initial public offering and used the proceeds to purchase additional franchise locations. By 1996, when Ford Motor Company decided to divest itself of Budget Rent a Car Corporation, Team Rental was Budget's largest franchisee in North America. Team Rental leveraged that position to successfully acquire Budget's worldwide operations. By 1998, following additional acquisitions of Ryder Truck Rental, Cruse America, and Premier Car Rental, Budget Group (NYSE:BD) was generating annual revenues in excess of $2 billion and operating a fleet of greater than 300,000 vehicles.
In 2003, Sandy orchestrated Budget Group's sale to Avis which kicked off a decade long consolidation of the North American auto rental industry. In 2004, Sandy purchased a significant portion of U-Save Car and Truck Rental and began serving as its Co-Chairman and Co-CEO. In 2006, Sandy brought U-Save public through a reverse merger with Rent a Wreck Capital and U-Save was renamed Franchise Services of North America ("FSNA"). Under Miller's leadership, FSNA grew its presence at major airport markets through new franchise sales and the acquisition of Advantage Rent a Car, a $275 million revenue subsidiary of The Hertz Corporation.
In 2015 Sandy became a Member of the Supervisory Board of Europcar Groupe, the world's fourth largest car rental company traded on the Euronext Paris exchange.
Sandy has also been active in Florida's community banking landscape as the Co-Founder and Director of three financial institutions, two of which have been successfully sold. Today, Sandy is the Vice-Chairman of the board of directors of Gateway Bank of Florida, his third Florida community bank.
